Messi is 'ready' to play after recovering from injury

PSG could not play in the last two matches due to injury.  Lionel Messi was not in the last practice of the club.  Naturally, he had doubts about playing for the national team.  However, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni is hopeful of getting a captain in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.  Messi is now fully recovered and ready to play.

The reigning Copa Amrica champions will play in Uruguay on Saturday morning during Bangladesh qualifiers for the Qatar World Cup.  Four days later, they will play arch-rivals Brazil at home.

Asked about Messi's chances of playing against Uruguay, Scaloni told reporters on Thursday.

"We believe Leo (Messi) is in good shape. Leo wants to play and I want to play him too."

Scaloni announced the squad, leaving Messi with a leg injury while he was out, which PSG did not take well.  Leonardo, the club's sporting director, criticized the Argentina coach's decision, saying it was not right to call up Messi, who has not recovered from the injury.  He also wants FIFA to intervene in the matter.

In response to Leonardo's remarks, Scaloni said that they are working separately to bring Messi to the field after recovering from the injury.  He sees in real terms the Paris club's strong reaction to the six-time Footballer of the Year joining the national team.

"We have a good relationship with Leonardo and their (reaction) is understandable, because Messi has recently spent a lot of time with the national team.

Argentina are second in the South American region with 25 points from 11 matches.  Brazil is at the top with 31 points in an equal match.

The top four teams from the region will receive direct tickets to the World Cup in Qatar.  And the team in the fifth place will have to play in the intercontinental play-off.

Scaloni's side are unbeaten in their last 25 matches, starting in mid-2019.
